The Lo-Cal (Southern California) Chapter of NARPI will host the Western Region Reunion on May 2-4, 2016.

The Reunion hotel will be the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino, 3000 Paradise Road, Las Vegas, NV 89109. The hotel was previously known as the Las Vegas Hilton. Two room levels are being offered, "Premium Rooms" at $74 a night and "Signature Rooms" at $94 a night (plus 12% room tax). The NARPI Room Rate is available from Sunday, May 1st, through Thursday May 5, 2016 for those who may arrive early and/or stay an extra day. Both room types are about 400 square feet. They are available with either two double beds or one King size bed. Click here to view over a dozen dining options within the hotel. Complimentary self parking and high speed Internet for each sleeping room. Reservations at the NARPI room rate end on April 1st. Reservations made after April 1st will be at the market rate. The Hotel is located about 5 miles north of the Las Vegas airport. The hotel does not have an airport shuttle. Taxi service is readily available.

Tuesday and Wednesday will take you on tours of Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, The Ethel M Chocolate Factory, The Mob Museum and CSI: The Experience.

Monday, May 2, 2016: (2:00 PM - ???)
Registration will be in the Hospitality Room beginning at 2:00 PM. When checking in, ask for the location of the NARPI Hospitality Room. Hospitality Room opens at 2:00 PM and will be open until 10:00 PM and each day of the reunion during designated hours.

Your registration fee includes a 72-hour pass on the Las Vegas Monorail. The Monorail has a station in front of our hotel and will take you to all major casinos and resorts south of our hotel.

Tuesday, May 3, 2016 (8:30 am - 5:30 pm)
Our Deluxe Motor-coach's will depart the hotel at 8:30 to take us to Lake Mead for a 90 minute cruise aboard the Desert Princess. The Desert Princess is a three deck ship that is Coast Guard certified for over 200 passengers. The lower deck is handicap accessible. We will sail at 10AM. Boarding photos will be taken and will be available for purchase when we return. There is a snack bar available (on your own).

We will reboard the bus about noon for a short drive to the Visitor Center and power-plant at Hoover Dam. We will take a tour of the power-plant and view the exhibits in the Visitor Center.

About 3PM we will get on the bus and drive up to the Tillman Bridge (opened in 2010).   This area is handicap accessible and includes ramps and stairs.   Those that are up to it can walk across (or maybe half way) the bridge and have a spectacular view of Hoover Dam and Lake Mead.

Our last stop will be at the Ethel M Chocolate Factory.   We will return to our hotel about 5PM.

NEW Option: If there is enoungh interest, we will arrange for a bus trip to The Fremont Street Experience (aka "Glitter Gulch") on Tuesday evening. The Fremont Street Experience is also a AAA "GEM" attraction. Fremont Street was the original casino center in Las Vegas. Unlike the strip, the casinos are packed shoulder to shoulder for several blocks. Fremont Street has been turned into a pedestrian-only mall. Fremont Street has been covered with a 90-foot wide canopy that streches for several blocks. The canopy has 12.5 million LED lights. After dusk, the LED lights put out a spectacular 8-10 minute light show (on the hour). To enhance your experience, the casinos turn off their neon lights during the show. Fremont Street is also known for its constant parade of sidewalk artists, Elvis impersonators, people dressed as celebrities and movie characters, show girls, etc. Unfortunately, Glitter Gulch is about five miles from our hotel.

If there is sufficient interest, we could charter a bus for a three-hour evening excursion. The cost to charter a bus for three hours would be $330. The cost would be divided by the number of people signing up. A bus is only practical if there is enough interest to pay for it. The cost per person would range from $6.25 to $11. We would not be able to do this with less than 30 people signing up. Let us know if you are interested.

Wednesday, May 4, 2015 (9:30 am - 4:00 pm)
Faneuil Hall PhotoWe will be using a 53 passenger ADA compliant motor-coach running as a shuttle between our hotel and the Mob Museum. It will run from 9:30AM to 2:30PM. It will make a round-trip every 40 minutes. In the first hour it will be able to move about 106 people to the museum. If attendance exceeds that we can add a second shuttle.

The museum is located about five miles north of our hotel. You may recognize the style of the building. It's a 1930's era Post Office/Federal Courthouse building. Upon entering you will be provided with a headset that will narrate the exhibits. The exhibits are located on the second and third floors of the building. An elevator will take you to the first exhibit. The building was the site of a Senate hearing (led by Estes Kefauver) on Organized Crime that took place here in the early 1950's. The tour includes the renovated hearing room and a short news "clip" of the proceedings. Many exhibits include the law enforcement side on organized crime. The Mob Museum is a AAA "GEM" attraction. The AAA recommends a minimum of 1.5 hours. The exhibits will be viewed at your own pace. The use of a shuttle will allow you to return to the hotel for the second tour of day, CSI: The Experience.

Upon your return to the hotel you can continue on to CSI: The Experience or take a short break at our hotel. CSI is located in the MGM Grand Hotel about three miles south of our hotel. How are you going to get there? The Las Vegas Monorail has a station in front of our hotel and the southern most station is at the MGM Grand. You can reach the station platform by escalator or elevator. You may recall that a 72 hour Las Vegas Monorail ticket is included in your registration. CSI is located just inside the MGM from the attached Monorail station.

At CSI: The Experience, you will be broken into groups and will be assigned one of three murder scenarios. You will examine a crime scene, test the evidence in a lab and come to a conclusion on "who done it". After your evaluation there are a number of exhibits to view. The entry hours for CSI are 9AM to 8PM. Again, you can proceed at your own pace. CSI: The Experience is handicap accessible.

Then it's back to the Las Vegas Monorail for the return trip to the Westgate Hotel.

The Western Region Annual Meeting will be held at 4PM (location to be announced).

GOLF: Our schedule does not include golf but let us know if you are interested. We will try to put you in touch with others that are interested. There are a number of golf courses in the area including one across the street. Monday would work good as it would not conflict with other scheduled events.
